Our First Pick ‘n’ Party – Lower Falinge More Pick ‘n’ Party events planned
About Pick ‘n’ partyFed up with litter in your neighbourhood?Like to make your area a better place to live? Now’s your big chance to help your community make a difference. The “Big Tidy Up” is being run by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. It aims to help communities get together to clean up their area. RBH is supporting this campaign with our new “Pick ‘n’ Party” project which we are running in partnership with Rochdale Council’s Environmental Management Team and the Green volunteers. What’s it all about? We want community groups* on Council estates managed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) to let us know if there is somewhere on their estate that they think needs a tidy up. We can help groups to organise and promote a clean up activity and encourage people living in the community to join in the fun on the day.
RBH staff and Rochdale Council’s Green Volunteers will be there to support the communities during the litter pick and RBH will also reward everyone who has joined in by funding a party at the end of the activity up to the amount of £100 (plus any room hire charge). This is a great chance to get together, have some fun and make a real difference to the local community. If your group would like your area to be considered please email us. You will then be asked to complete a simple nomination form to give us some basic information about when and where you would like to do your tidy up. * Community groups means any group of volunteers who live and/or work on a Council estate managed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing. You may be just a group of neighbours or an officially recognised group such as a Tenants and Residents Association. Our first Pick ‘n’ Party – Lower Falinge
Youngsters from Lower Falinge show that they really care about the environment on their estate. During their Pick ‘n’ Party event on 29th October they worked hard clearing up litter and planting bulbs and plants on the estate and in Falinge Park. As a thank you for their efforts they enjoyed a fun party at Falinge Park Café. Khalida Crossley, Senior Housing Officer for Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), said, “The event was a great success with over 30 youngsters joining in. They have made a huge difference to how the estate looks and when the bulbs flower in the springtime they will see the full effect of their hard work. Lots of the youngsters made new friends and the party afterwards was lots of fun with a Halloween theme and plenty of party games”. “It was fantastic that all the agencies who work on the estate came together to plan, prepare and run the event. It was a real team effort between RBH, The Council’s Environmental Management Team and their Green Volunteers, Lower Falinge Community Activity Group, RoFTRA, NESTAC, Surestart, V-Involved, Falinge Park Café, Spotlight on Falinge and the Lower Falinge Asylum Team”.
Pick ‘n’ Party at StansfieldStansfield gets a make-over Rochelle Black (age 12) said, “I didn’t expect it to be fun picking up litter but I really enjoyed it” Danielle Talks (age 12) said, “It loved planting the bulbs and I’m looking forward to seeing the flowers in the spring”. Cllr Peter Evans said, “I applaud the enthusiasm shown by the children, young people and adults who took part in the Big Clean Up on Stansfield. I thoroughly commend the initiative by members of the Tenants and Residents Association who organised and supervised the event with commensurate skill. Not only has the estate been made cleaner, but the hundreds of bulbs planted will look fantastic when they bloom next spring and live as a testament to the hours of work spent improving the Stansfield Estate. It was a joy to take part”.
Neighbours Day at Dalton Road, MiddletonDalton Road gets a lick of paint and a good tidy! Rachel Lartey (tenant) said, “The caretakers were fantastic, they helped us to erect three gazebo’s to protect the buffet lunch from the rain and made frequent trips to the tip with the rubbish brought out from people’s gardens.” Communities First Coordinator, Ruth Sillence, said: “It was amazing to see how many people came out of their houses to join in – teenagers helped those who were less able to move rubbish and paint fences, mums with prams picked litter and men and women helped the caretakers loading the van with rubbish. On bank holiday Monday it was great to see people painting their own or their neighbour’s fence. It has brought the community together.”
If you would like to get involved in any of the above events or would like us to help you plan one of your own please email or telephone Ruth Sillence (Communities First Co-ordinator) on 01706 273828. |
