This is the 3rd year RBH has joined in with the Council’s Townships in Bloom Competition with our category “Best Garden by a Council Tenant” and we are delighted that we are getting more entries each year.

The competition is a great opportunity for us to offer recognition to tenants whose hard work helps to create lovely gardens that are not only a pleasure for the gardener themselves, their family and their neighbours but which also make a real difference to the overall look of the estates that we manage. All of this year’s entrants should be very proud of what they have achieved.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our panel of tenant judges who gave up 2 days of their own time to visit all the entrants and judge their gardens. Our judges were impressed by the wide range of shrubs and flowers and there was a bit of a challenge on the day to see how many varieties the judges could correctly name.  A key theme in this year’s entries seemed to be integrating home grown vegetables and fruit info garden designs either in pots, specific beds or intermingled with flowering plants in borders.

The winners were announced by Eugene Wilson, RBH Director of Property Services, at a gala event at Rochdale Town Hall. The Mayor, Councillor Keith Swift presented the awards and said: "Borough in Bloom is a great way to celebrate local people’s efforts to improve their great outdoors through gardening and horticulture, and we’d like to thank everyone who entered this year."

Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, Councillor Irene Davidson said: "It’s the one event in the year which sees everyone who loves gardening and the great outdoors come together"
