Planned Maintenance - Preparing Your Home For The Work
Before the work starts on your home there are a few things you need to do to help us carry out the work.
Inside your home
- You need to remove all valuables, including electrical goods and items that could easily break and put them in a safe place.
- All pictures, hanging plates and other items on your walls or the walls near where the work is being carried out need to be taken down.
- All ornaments on shelves and in cabinets need to be taken down and put away safely as vibration could cause them to fall.
- We can provide boxes for you to pack your belongings into. Please ask your Development Officer if you need some boxes.
- In some cases you may need to take down curtains and blinds. Your Development Officer will tell you if you need to do this.
- In some cases you may need to move furniture and lift carpets, laminate flooring or other floor coverings. Your Development Officer will tell you if you need to do this.
- If you have laminate flooring the contractor will move it for you. If the laminate flooring can’t be put back in its original condition we will replace it.
- Please keep clear any areas, including stairways, which may be required to maintain walkways to access specific areas of work.
- If you are having your kitchen replaced please ensure all cupboards are emptied and that all items are removed from the walls. Please ensure that all appliances except your cooker are removed from the kitchen.
Outside your house
- Any items you have around your back door and along the pathway must be removed to allow the operatives to get through. Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and it’s contractors cannot be held liable for any damage caused to possessions near where the operatives will need to carry items through.
- If scaffolding has been erected around your property please ensure that both pets and children are kept away from all work areas regardless of the nature or extent of the work.
- During external works please ensure that all windows and doors are kept closed during the working hours and that washing is not hung out to dry.
If you think you are going to have difficulty clearing areas of your home due to any circumstances then please discuss this with your Development Officer during your survey.
The Operatives will:
- provide clean dustsheets to protect carpets as far as possible.
- be sealing the doorway to the kitchen to try and stop as much dust as possible entering the rest of the property.
- tidy up where they have been working every day.
- make sure your property is left safe and secure.
We will do all we can to minimise the level of disruption to you and your family during the work to your home.
